Split PDF

Keep the pages you need in separate files.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

How do you split a PDF?

Split one PDF into sections or take only the pages you need into new files. Decide on your page groups first.

  1. Open a copy of the PDF

Inspect the page thumbnails and use the actual page order.

  2. Choose a splitting method

In a capable editor, choose page ranges, page counts, or section boundaries.

  3. Check the output groups

For example, 1–3 and 4–6 make two files; separate-page extraction makes six.

  4. Save the new files

Open each result and verify its page count, order, and first and last pages.

This guide explains the general workflow in an application that supports the operation. This version offers file selection and type/size checks; it does not generate processed output.

Frequently asked questions

Answers about the workflow, file quality, and situations you may encounter.

How do I split a specific page range?

In a capable editor, choose the first and last pages. For example, pages 3–7 include five pages.

Can every page become a separate PDF?

A capable extraction tool can save pages as separate files. This differs from collecting selected pages into one PDF.

Can I select nonconsecutive pages?

Editors with page selection can extract pages such as 2, 5, and 8. Check their order before saving.

Is splitting different from extracting pages?

Splitting divides a document into sections. Extraction copies selected pages into a new document or individual files.

Can I split a PDF by bookmarks?

Some desktop editors split at top-level bookmarks. If suitable bookmarks are missing, use page counts or ranges instead.

Why do printed page numbers differ from page positions?

Covers and Roman-numbered front matter can make printed labels differ from positions. Confirm the intended pages using thumbnails.

Do scanned PDFs need OCR before splitting?

Page splitting does not inherently require text recognition. OCR is needed when you want searchable or editable scanned text.

Should I keep the original PDF?

Yes. Save outputs under different names. Check any extraction option that removes pages from the source document.

Can I complete the operation and download a file on this page?

This version supports file selection and checks of file type, size, and count. Processing is not connected, so it does not convert, edit, or generate downloads. The guide describes a workflow in an application that supports the operation.

Which file types and sizes can I select?

This tool accepts PDF file extensions. You can select up to 20 files, with a 25 MB per-file limit and 100 MB total. Checking an extension does not verify that the file contents are valid or undamaged.

Are my selected files sent to a server?

In this version, file contents are not read or uploaded. Selections stay in the tab’s memory and are cleared on refresh. File names, extensions, and sizes are used only to display and check your selection.
