STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

How do you change an image format?

Choose the target format in an image editor after considering transparency and editing requirements.

  1. Keep a working copy

Retain a separate editable source that preserves layers and effects.

  2. Choose the target format

Match the output format to a photo, logo or transparent image.

  3. Export a new copy

Use the editor’s Save As or Export command.

  4. Check it in the target app

Inspect appearance and transparency in the application that will use the file.

This guide explains the general workflow in an application that supports the operation. This version offers file selection and type/size checks; it does not generate processed output.

Frequently asked questions

Answers about the workflow, file quality, and situations you may encounter.

Should I use JPG for photos and PNG for logos?

JPEG can suit photographs; PNG is better suited to sharp lines and images requiring transparency.

Does converting PNG to JPG preserve transparency?

No; choose a background color to replace transparent areas when creating a JPEG.

What is the advantage of WebP?

WebP offers lossy and lossless compression, with support for transparency and animation.

Does every format preserve layers?

No; retain a working file such as PSD to preserve editable layers, effects and masks.

Should I use PNG or GIF for animation?

Photoshop’s GIF saving workflow handles frame animation; standard PNG export is not the same animation workflow.

Can I complete the operation and download a file on this page?

This version supports file selection and checks of file type, size, and count. Processing is not connected, so it does not convert, edit, or generate downloads. The guide describes a workflow in an application that supports the operation.

Which file types and sizes can I select?

This tool accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP file extensions. You can select up to 20 files, with a 25 MB per-file limit and 100 MB total. Checking an extension does not verify that the file contents are valid or undamaged.

Are my selected files sent to a server?

In this version, file contents are not read or uploaded. Selections stay in the tab’s memory and are cleared on refresh. File names, extensions, and sizes are used only to display and check your selection.
